The First Aid Response training course provides appropriate training to individuals and groups who require a first aid skill set including cardiac first response. PHECC has designed the First Aid Response (FAR) Standard to offer appropriate training to individuals and groups who require a first aid skill set including cardiac first response. This standard is designed to meet first aid and basic life support (BLS) requirements that a person known as “First Aid Responder” may encounter.

Description

The FAR Standard meets the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) requirement for occupational first aid training for the workplace. The Child and Family Agency (TUSLA) guidance also recognizes FAR as the standard for childcare.

 

The objectives of Servisource FAR Course:

  • Training for individuals/ groups in first aid & cardiac first response
  • Replaces old Occupational First Aid (OFA)
  • 18 hours instruction/12 hours Refresher training minimum
  • Certification is valid for 2 years
  • Practical Assessment & MCQ Exam
  • Meets the requirements of PHECC “First Aid Responder” (First Aider)

  • 1 – Patient Assessment
  • 2 – Incident Procedure
  • 3 – CFR Community
  • 4 – Common Medical Emergencies
  • 5 – Injury Management & Shock
  • 6 – Care of the Unconscious Patient
  • 7 – Burns & Electrical Injury Care
  • 8 – Hypothermia & Hyperthermia
  • 9 – Information Management
  • 10 – Communications
  • 11 – The well-being of the First Aid Responder

 

 Delivery Method

  • Classroom Presentation & Discussion
  • DVD & Practical Demonstration
  • Each learner will receive a First Aid pack to include a First Aid Manual and training aids i;e bandages, masks etc 

 

Course Duration

This course is delivered over 3 days which can be consecutive days/weeks

 

Maximum Participants

The maximum participants per course is 8

 

Certification

PHECC First Aid Response certificate valid for 2 years - Recertification must be completed within 2 years

 

Assessment

  • Practical & Theory Assessment
  • Theory assessment is multiple choice 
  • Pass rate - 60% or higher 

 

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and Assess the causes and effects of sudden illness and/or injury.
  • Call for emergency medical services and provide adequate cover until handover.
  • React to emergencies and respond in a safe, effective and appropriate manner.
  • Record and report actions and interventions.
  • Retain a caring attitude in your role as a First Aid Responder.
